Our Turnaround Investment in God

As beautiful as it is, the fall season looks like death.

And it is, after a fashion. The leaves blaze with color, but only because they are dying. The tree has already shut down its chlorophyll manufacturing plant, and the life is bleeding out of the leaves. That’s why they shine with color. Their life (chlorophyll) is bleeding away and they will soon wither and die.

Yet, we can watch this process – the death of the leaves – with pleasure and enjoyment because we know it’s not the end. Winter is coming, but life will be renewed in the spring.

Psalm 126:5-6 in the NIV reveals the same experience in our lives:

“Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.”

Fall becomes winter, and it looks like the world is dying, but it’s only a moment of turnaround. We know something better is on its way.

That soured investment? God says your turnaround is coming!

You weep at a funeral, yet God says to rejoice, for he has welcomed them home!

Your sins forgiven, the best turnaround of all, for now you are a child of the King!

Verse 5 in this passage says that our tears will turn to joy.

Verse 6 assures us that if we sow our seed with tears, we will harvest with songs of joy.

Now is not the time to give up. Just beneath the soil, God is growing something good for you. Your finances, your relationships, your health … your investment in him will never sour or fail.

God is our turnaround God, and as the spring comes after the winter, so he will return our joy to us.
