Our Relief in Jesus

A routine day became a life-threatening disaster for Sheena McIntosh and her son in August of 2019.

Hurricane Dorian smashed across the Bahamas with a Category 5 fist, ripping the roof from her house. The 20 hours the storm raged was the largest natural disaster in the country’s history.

Afterwards, only walls remained in Sheena’s house, and everything inside was gone or destroyed. Above her head, open sky had become her ceiling.

How to survive? Uninsured, widowed, and her son facing special needs. How could she survive? For Sheena, she endured the storm’s careless brush of destruction alone with no future in sight.

Yet.

A group called International Relief Teams stepped in, provided Sheena and her son with a new roof and hope for the future.

As Christians, we often feel in Sheena’s shoes. Life has rolled over us like a hurricane, leaving us bereft and alone. How can we go on?

John 16:33 tells us:

“In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Car trouble? I have overcome the world.

Relationships soured? I have overcome the world.

Illness threatening your very life? I have overcome the world.

Good Christian, take heart! Christ came from heaven, became a man, and endured more than you or I can imagine. He understands every trial you face.

When the winds of life blow, Jesus is our relief in the storm.
