Megan and Sam were best friends in high school in Florida. They dreamed of becoming professional chefs one day, and after graduation, they seemed to be on their way.
Megan moved into the local restaurant scene, and Sam found her way to New Orleans where she opened a successful seafood restaurant.
Sam soon learned that Megan’s life of dreams had crumbled, including a recent divorce and becoming a single parent, so when a cooking show offered a chance for contestants to earn a cash prize and a job in a culinary school, Sam knew this was Megan’s chance.
It took some convincing, but after Sam visited (and offered to babysit Megan’s daughter), Megan entered the contest.
Watching the final scores roll in, Sam watched with bated breath as the last judge gave her friend a thumb’s up, charting Megan’s life back onto a path to realize her dreams.
2 Corinthians 4:16-17 in The Message Bible says:
“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.”
Your life may have stumbled. Where you dreamed you might be may seem impossible to regain. People may have failed you, circumstances … job prospects … investment strategies … yet we can’t give up.
This verse tells us that even when our lives look like they are falling apart, God offers us a fresh start.
In the Lord, we can once more reach out and grasp the dreams that so recently seemed out of reach. God is making our lives new through his unfolding grace.
