Releasing the Butterfly

We love the beauty in the butterfly.

The chrysalis from which it comes is less lovely.

The thing is, we can’t get the butterfly without the chrysalis. The butterfly starts out as a caterpillar, intentionally creates a chrysalis to disappear into, and then has to break free of its self-made prison to become the beautiful thing we enjoy seeing.

What’s your chrysalis? What walls have you created around yourself? Financial troubles you’ve gotten into? A rocky relationship? How about a lifestyle that keeps you from being your best?

Matthew 6:34 in the KJV says:

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

The butterfly is temporarily locked into its chrysalis, a dark place of its own making. It must feel it will never get free. Yet, one day, the chrysalis cracks open, and the butterfly spreads its wings and flies away. It does no good for the butterfly to worry about being inside that dark world it’s created for itself. When the time is right, it is released to live in the sun.

Your chrysalis isn’t the end you. It’s not your final version. It’s temporary, and through it, you will become what God intends you to be.

Trust God for your future and find the good in today, for now is the time we have in our hands.
