What’s broken about your life?
What’s the wheel that’s thumping along, a flat tire in a round world, thump, thump, thump every time you try to get anywhere in life?
A spouse you no longer respect?
A job you can no longer stand?
The memory of a past cruelty that still hurts?
These things are a blowout ready to happen. You need to get into the shop and get repairs done before things go from bad to worse.
Ezekiel 36:26 says:
“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
God is your fix-it expert, your repair guru, the person you go to when you don’t have time to break down alongside the road.
Here are four fixes from this verse:
God’s 1st Fix for Us:
“I will give you a new heart.”
New desires. New intents. A new level of love for the Lord and the people who surround us.
God’s 2nd Fix for Us:
“A new spirit I will put within you.”
This is a renewal of our faith. It is our spirit that connects with the Father above.
God’s 3rd Fix for Us:
“I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh.”
Hurt feelings. Bad memories. The anger that accompanies them. Gone, banished, no longer around to make us miserable.
God’s 4th Fix for Us:
“[I will] give you a heart of flesh.”
We become whole again, tires aired up and rolling smoothly down the road, the troubles we once found overwhelming now resting securely in the hands of our Lord.
God wants to mend us. When we place ourselves in his hands, he reshapes us into the best that we can be.
