Trash gets stinky. Let’s face it.
Those old eggshells, the pizza boxes from last week, the greasy paper towels from the bacon plate … yeah, you’re seeing this.
Tie up the garbage bag, drop it in the bin, and we can forget it ever was.
That’s what Christ encourages us to do with our past hurts, mistakes, and stumbles.
Isaiah 43:18 says:
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.”
Toss them out. Boot them through the door. Send them on their way. You can, with God’s help.
Earlier, God says in Isaiah 43:16:
“Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters.”
Are you seeing this? When we don’t see how we can move forward, God says, “I’m already creating your path. Take the first step, and I will open your path for you one additional step at a time.”
He says so specifically in Isaiah 43:19b:
“I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Trash out, baggage chucked away, a new life ahead of us. We might see a wilderness or a desert. God sees his will unfolding before our eyes.
You are more than your past. You are God’s warrior. Move forward into him. He is your strength.
