Our bodies have a way of telling us something’s wrong.
Pain is our friend, although when it washes over us, it’s hard to tell. Still, if we weren’t aware of our physical problems, we’d go on and do more injury than our body could heal. Congenital analgesia (CIP) is a rare genetic disorder that allows some people to feel pressure against the skin but no pain. The condition CIPA also disables the body’s ability to cool itself by sweating, creating a real risk of heat-related impacts on the body.
Healing is needed in more than one way. For some, it’s to take away pain. For others, it’s to give it back.
Isaiah 41:10 says God will heal us by giving us strength.
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Jeremiah 17:14 guarantees our healing will come through salvation.
“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.”
Jeremiah 33:6 offers prosperity and security along with our healing.
“Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.”
1 Peter 2:24 casts off our unrighteousness when we are healed.
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
Isaiah 53:5 links our healing with the injuries Christ received at the cross.
“But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.”
Psalm 103:2-4 gives us our healing along with God’s love and mercy.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,”
James 5:15 imbues us with the power to heal the sick through faith in the power of the Lord.
“And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”
No pain; no gain. That’s an old body-builder’s mantra. It’s true for the Christian, also. When we cry out in our suffering for Christ to heal us, all sorts of bonus blessings flow from God’s hand along with his healing power.
Our hurting hearts draw us to Jesus, and he reaches to us to flood us with his steadfast love and compassion.
