Coffee and cream. Bacon and eggs. Peanut butter and jelly. Some things just go together.
In a children’s story by Dr. Seuss, one of the characters champions green eggs and ham as a culinary treat. Only at the end of the tale does Sam try the treat and decide it is as good as suggested.
What do you love? Coffee and cream? Biscuits and gravy? Apple pie and ice cream? One without the other … not the same, you cry, and you are right.
Matthew 19:4-6 gives us a pair the Bible says we can never break apart.
“[Jesus] answered, ‘Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.’ ”
This passage isn’t a popular excerpt from the Bible. Even in the church, separating contentious couples has become the norm.
When we’re linked by the Lord, we become coffee and cream, bacon and eggs, peanut butter and jelly.
Green eggs and ham, perfect to the palate and as wonderful as suggested.
God put us together for a reason. We are linked together by the Lord.
