Families.
If we have a good one, we have a support structure that can buoy us through the toughest circumstances of our lives.
If our family becomes fractured, it can weigh us down like an anchor, and we’ll sink like a stone.
We must work to make our family a success, but it doesn’t always come easily. Children need independence. Siblings bicker. Old wounds rub us raw.
It’s worth the effort, no matter how much work we put into it. The blessings outweigh the cost 100 percent.
Our successful family becomes a precious blessing in three ways.
Our 1st Precious Blessing from the Lord:
Proverbs 31:15 reveals the core element of a successful family.
“She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.”
Don’t let anyone tell you this is an easy job. A family is doubly blessed when the woman of the house gives of her time and energy to see that everyone else is well fed and cared for.
Our 2nd Precious Blessing from the Lord:
Psalm 127:3-5 says our children are the gifts that make our family unit whole.
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”
Children take work, yet they are precious in our sight. They are the reward of God for the love we share as man and wife.
Our 3rd Precious Blessing from the Lord:
Genesis 28:14 gives the reason for our family unit.
“Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”
Our children are our reason for being, for it is through them that our lives are made whole, and the rest of the earth is blessed. They are worth the time and energy we expend raising them in the teachings of the Lord.
Our family is more than just us. It’s all of us, parents, children, and more. When we work together to be a success, the whole world benefits from our efforts.
Our family is from God, and in Christ, we come together as one.
