2 Vital Parenting Tips

English Audio Version

Children are a blessing.

No one doubts that, unless, of course, it’s on a day when our loved ones challenge us to exasperation.

Children tend to do that.

  • Our preschooler fights to establish their independence.
  • Our preteen can’t decide between self-sufficiency and dependency on his or her parents.
  • Our teen is tugged sideways by wayward peers.

There are two key things to remember when we want to pull out our hair, two vital tips that will help us get past the rough spots.

Vital Parenting Tip No. 1:

Ephesians 6:4 gives us an insight we can’t ignore.

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

Read that clearly with a humble mind. Do not provoke your children to anger. Certainly, we’re the parents, but that doesn’t mean we can treat our children as less than important. They have feelings, too. Our children deserve our respect and carefully chosen words.

Vital Parenting Tip No. 2:

Proverbs 22:6 reveals our responsibility in the upbringing of our offspring.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Think back on the things you learned as a child. If you have good memories of your parents, you probably still do things the way you learned back then. What you teach your children by what you say and do will stick with them. They will one day become you.

Our job as parents is to bring out the best in our children, so that they can become the best adults possible. Everything else must be set aside for that goal. Have fun with your kids, absolutely. Train them with care, also, so they can live a life based on the teachings of Christ and the sacrifice our Lord made on the cross.

Our true success with our children comes when we see them walking in the footsteps of Jesus.

Excerpt of the Day

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
