Stepping from Uncertainty into God

Loosey-goosey. What does that mean to you?

It’s slang, so maybe it’s not part of your regular vocabulary, so let’s look at what Dictionary.com has to say.

First, we need to know that this is an adjective. That means it describes something. A thing, perhaps a person, but certainly not an action.

Here’s a sample sentence for an example:

Even during treacherous weather, my father remains loosey-goosey on the road.

Some people use this word to suggest lack of concern or even irresponsibility. Dictionary.com says we can replace it with relaxed, calm, and unperturbed and have our sentence retain its meaning.

The weather can be loosey-goosey. Our car’s steering can also be loosey-goosey, although that one sounds strange. Steering doesn’t normally act but is acted upon.

Now imagine a stressful situation. A blowout on the road. You lose your job. Your spouse threatens to abandon you. How well do you remain relaxed, calm, and unperturbed?

Or do you pull at your hair, try to work out how to resolve the situation, and bully through the stress?

Unnecessary anxiety doesn’t have to make things worse. Read in Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV):

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

We lead a loosey-goosey life through the grace of our Lord. We are calm, collected, and relaxed.

How?

By placing our faith (read: trust) in the Lord. We choose to fall to our knees, delve deeply into God’s Word, and ask advice from the faithful elders in the body of Christ.

God wants to lead you forward and through your situation. God wants you to find your peace in him. God wants to be your place of refuge even when life comes hard at you from every direction.

Give God a chance. Your loosey-goosey life in him will be better than you can imagine.
