His Words on Our Heart

What do we mean when we say something is written in stone?

Why don’t we say written in sand, instead … ah, right. It will be blown away by the wind or washed away by water.

Written in wood … doesn’t that work? Oh, yeah, only until time causes it to decay, rot, get eaten by termites, or it goes up in flames.

In modern terms … CDs delaminate. Hard drives go belly up. Backup systems need multiple copies … and sometimes we lose those, too. Stone, yep, it’s beginning to make sense.

Write it in stone, and you have it for all time. Or as long as mankind can manage.

God offers us one more location, the place he wants us to write his words.

Revelation 21:5 in the ESV says:

“And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ Also he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’”

Write them where? On our heart. What words? That we are NEW CREATURES IN HIM. That we are HIS PEOPLE. That God shall BE WITH US. That the creator of all things WILL BE OUR GOD.

It’s much like the story of the three little pigs. The first little pig built his house of straw … GONE! The second built his of wood … SMASHED! The third of stone … and it stood against the evil one (the wolf).

Let’s be a smart pig. Let’s use the strongest medium possible.

Let’s write the words of God on our heart.
