So, you want God to speak to you.
“Just talk to me, God. I’m listening … like, now, maybe?”
And you get up from your prayer spot and head into the day, moving forward disappointed that God has not spoken to you.
At breakfast, your daughter gives you a hug and says, “I love you.”
Your dog yaps for joy when you put food in its bowl.
Your spouse wishes you a good day.
You see a butterfly as you back out of the driveway.
A bird catches your attention, and you stop and listen to it sing before walking into the office.
A customer compliments you on helping them out in a difficult situation.
Your waitress at lunch wishes you to have a good day ...
You return to your desk and remember your morning prayer. You think, “The day’s half over. I’m still waiting, God.”
And God sighs and wonders why you have so much trouble hearing him when he speaks to you.
Psalm 29:4 says:
“The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.” NIV
Your daughter’s words … your pet’s love … your spouse, the butterfly, the birdsong … are you seeing it? That’s God speaking his love to you at every turn.
Here’s what God wants us to see: When we listen for his voice, we’ll hear him speak all day long. He’s in the flower, the birdsong, the voices of the ones we love. He’s in the waitress who treats us with care and in the customer who notices the hard work we put in.
God is good. He loves you, and he wants you to know. When we learn how to listen, we’ll hear his voice every time.
“I love you.”
And he does, every day and in every way. Listen for him. He’s there for you.
