In 2014, 17-year-old Joseph Chambers was in the right place at the right time.
Joseph was visiting his sister, when two cars collided just outside her house. He ran outside to find two vehicles locked in the fatal embrace of what appeared to be a deadly collision.
Joseph, a volunteer firefighter, was able to pull the driver of one of the cars to safety just before his vehicle burst into flames.
Just the right training, just the right location, and just in time. Joseph was a teenage hero to someone who might have died otherwise.
We have a hero who is there for us just in time when we need him.
2 Samuel 22:17-20 reveals our just-in-time rescuer in action:
“He sent from on high, he took me; he drew me out of many waters. He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.”
Life can feel like a car wreck. Relationships, a poor health diagnosis, even financial difficulties. We can’t even see the light at the end of our tunnel. We’re so far in the hole that we look up and can’t find the sun.
Yet this verse says that “he drew me out of many waters.” We read that “he rescued me from my strong enemy.” We are saved from “those who hated me” and those who were “too mighty for me.”
See, here’s the thing we must understand. Our enemy will always be bigger than us. That’s not the issue. The truth we must grasp is that OUR GOD IS BIGGER!
That wreck in 2014 was a sure-fire killer. That man in that car was already dead except that Joseph was there just in time and with the skills and strength to pull him free.
That’s what Our Lord does for us. Jesus is our salvation, and when he comes on the scene, he rescues us just in time, and we walk away unharmed.
Jesus is our just-in-time rescue, and we can place our trust in him.
