A Light in the Darkness

The fall season brings one thing we don’t always enjoy: earlier nights. The sun gives us shorter and shorter days, eating into our daily schedule.

A YouTuber from Svalbard, a Norwegian island north of the Arctic Circle, posts videos of winter days that are fully dark at noon or one pm. Occasionally, she shares that even with her upbeat, positive personality, there are times the darkness becomes oppressive.

Here are seven times the Word reveals Jesus as our light in the darkness.

Light No. 1: “I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.” – John 12:46

The lamp of Christ’s presence is turned on!

Light No. 2: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7

Jesus blinds the devil with his brilliance!

Light No. 3: “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” – 1 John 1:5

There is no bad thing to be found in Christ!

Light No. 4: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil.” – Isaiah 9:2-3

We walk in the light, no longer in darkness!

Light No. 5: “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” – Ephesians 5:8

We not only walk in the light, we become the children of Light, who is Jesus!

Light No. 6: “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” – John 3:19-21

We prove that we live in the light when we practice the truth as found in the Word!

Light No. 7: “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 4:6

We have the light of the Lord in our hearts, and we are empowered in him!

Even when things are at their darkest, Jesus reveals the brilliance of his presence as our guiding light. When we turn to him, we will be refreshed at every turn.

Jesus is our number one authority, and the only thing he tells us to do is love one another.
