Waiting …
Are you tired of doing that … waiting? Even with God, it seems it’s wait, wait, and then wait some more.
Take Abraham, the great founder of the Judeo-Christian religion, the man who did all the right things, jumped through all the correct hoops, placed God first in all things …
Well, mostly. There was Ishmael … even Abraham got tired of waiting sometimes.
But here’s the thing: God credited Abraham’s faith (his patience as he trusted God) as righteousness.
Because Abraham didn’t move without God’s say-so (waiting 25 years before Sarah gave birth to Isaac), God looked highly on his servant.
Abraham was even willing to sacrifice Isaac, trusting God to uphold his promise to raise out of him a great generation, even bring Isaac back to life, if that’s what it took. Talk about the ultimate waiting game. Did Abraham even have another thirty-five years to raise a son all over again?
Hebrews 11:17-19 tells the story:
“By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, ‘It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.’ Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.”
What are you willing to give up to God? Even the very thing God has promised you … the things you’ve waited on for years? That lake house, your spouse, the cushy job with the corner office
What we give up to God reveals our faith in him, and our faith is credited to us as righteousness.
God’s say-so is the only say-so. Let’s jump out on his word and place our faith in him.
