Elephants are some of the smartest creatures on the planet, with memories that last for decades.
In one elephant camp, the 4-ton behemoths were secured with small ropes wrapped around one ankle.
A visitor asked why the elephants didn’t escape. They were bound to be stronger than the small rope that entangled them.
The answer was surprising. Even from babies, they wear the same size rope. As babies, they aren’t strong enough to get free. As adults, they believe they aren’t strong enough to get free.
Now apply this to yourself. What has you trapped in despair? What has you bound up and helpless?
The elephants could have broken free. They were conditioned to believe the rope was stronger than them.
2 Chronicles 7:14 says:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Ropes broken! God’s children released! No more captivity for us!
Like the elephants in that camp, we become conditioned to sin being stronger than our faith in God. Not so! Let’s call on God, and we will be set free!
