At a Texas animal kennel that offered accommodations from the basic to air-conditioned luxury with a private TV, a family dropped off their dog for a stay while they headed off to Disney World.
After their dog was set up, the family’s young daughter asked where Spike would sleep. He couldn’t go to Disney, could he? Spike soon emerged from her backpack, an adorable stuffed plushie dog.
The kennel attendant gave the full facility tour for Spike, and the daughter chose the luxury pet suite. She left Spike in his room to enjoy his time while they were away, leaving her father wide-eyed over the possible additional cost.
As they exited the facility, the attendant privately assured the girl’s father that Spike would be no charge. He would be safely stored and waiting when they returned.
That plushie needing a kennel might seem silly, but to that little girl, Spike was everything. Our concerns might be small to others, but they are large to Jesus.
And the price we are asked to pay? Salvation through Christ is free. Jesus wants to meet our needs.
Read along in the NIV translation of Isaiah 41:10:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
We get the private room with the TV … the air conditioning … the luxury suite. The Word says, “I will strengthen you and help you.” Then the verse goes on to say, “I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” That’s luxury beyond compare.
God has our back, to say it in street terms. When we face difficult times, God is at our back, taking care of problems we can’t see coming and helping us battle those we can.
We are safely covered by his protecting hand.
God is our safety and our protection in every trouble that comes our way.
