What is chucking?
Merriam-Webster gives us three clear meanings:
- We can toss or throw something away.
- We can discard an item, perhaps into the trash.
- We can dismiss something or someone, out of our life, if we like.
There’s one more option Webster’s gives us.
- We can simply give up; to chuck our job or an obligation we’ve taken on.
Each of these definitions paints a picture of getting rid of a heavy weight, something that’s burdened us and we should have rid ourselves of long ago.
Hey! That’s just like 1 Peter 5:7:
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
In modern terms, that verse sounds like:
- Anxieties . . . toss them away. Jesus is in your corner.
- Stubborn problems . . . into the trash. Jesus roots for your success.
- That negative person trying to pull you down . . . out of your life. Jesus is your divine cheerleader.
It’s time to give up managing your worries by yourself. You have Jesus at your side. He wants to carry them for you.
It’s chucking time!
When you wake up, and you can’t bear to get out of bed, say, “Jesus, I give this day to you. I’m not worrying about it for another minute.”
When someone grinds on your last nerve, say, “Jesus, they are all yours. They are no longer my problem but yours.”
When your car breaks down once again, trust Jesus for the payment on a new one. He can stretch your finances if you let him.
Jesus is your peace. Your comfort is found in him.
