Digging into God

English Audio Version

God loves a repentant sinner.

The Word tells us a choir of angels sing in adulation when one lost soul finds its way to the cross.

God also loves people who work hard at doing good.

When we put our strong arms into our salvation, scrounge up our skills in servitude to the Father, and spend a spell serving him, we’ve chalked up good marks in his book.

We’ve become rooted in the eternal one who is the great I Am.

Jeremiah 32:41 says:

“I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.”

Salvation is good as far as it goes. However, God doesn’t want us to stop there. He wants us to see the need set before us and take the initiative to jump in, full stop.

That means we don’t consider the consequences of our work. Will it impact our summer vacation plans? It doesn’t matter. It’s God’s work. Will our retirement plan suffer? Who cares? God can take care of us better than we can take care of ourselves.

Here’s what God says he will do when we root ourselves into him:

1. God will rejoice in us.

This may sound like a small thing, but when God rejoices in us, he opens his bountiful hand to bless us and all that we do.

2. God will plant us in the land.

When we are planted, we are established. Our resources will not run dry even in the drought of rough times. We are exceedingly blessed.

3. God will be faithful to us.

What promises has God made to you? He will bring them to pass, yea and amen. There is no doubting when God comes onto the scene.

How do we know God really means this? He gives us two binding assurances:

First, he says he will do it with all his heart.

This means his promise is made out of love, not simply from responsibility. A love promise binds us to him with bonds that cannot fail.

Second, he delves even deeper and says, “With all my soul.”

God’s soul is the essence of who he is, his very nature, the eternal person that sits upon the throne of creation and rules forever and ever. Wow! God loves us that much!

When we become planted in God, we will be able to lift our hands in praise unto him.
