Wouldn’t it be nice to have a time savings account?
Imagine it this way: On a soggy Saturday afternoon, instead of wasting our time staring out at the rain, we skip over it and bank the hours until the sun returns.
Then, when we’re at the park with the family, and the day’s perfect, and we don’t want it to end, it doesn’t have to. We make a withdrawal from our time account, and we can enjoy the day as long as we want.
We know that’s impossible. No one gets extra time just because they are enjoying their time so much . . . or do they?
Let’s look at the book of Proverbs. Chapter 9:11 tells us:
“For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.”
Does that mean . . . no, it can’t, can it? Surely, we can’t simply ask, and God says, “Oh, you need extra time? Let me see your passbook. You’ve been serving me, I see. You have quite a deposit of goodness banked with me. Here you go. Extra time granted.”
And God slams his stamp of approval on our passbook, and we walk away with a year extra to enjoy our spouse, our grandchildren, and all the blessings that God has showered upon us.
Well . . . that’s fun, but it doesn’t work exactly like that. What this verse means is that God is our protector. He is our healer, our guide into all good things, and our triumph in our time of need.
When our life is going poorly, God is there to offer us an exit into better things.
God is our salvation in life’s disasters, and in him, we can know the security that only he can provide.
Let’s link arms with God, for he is the giver of all good things.
