We know the story of Noah and the animals that marched through the doors of the ark two-by-two.
Then there’s David and his five stones, standing for the letters in J-E-S-U-S. Goliath came tumbling to the ground.
We love Samson killing his enemies with the jaw of a donkey, Moses parting the waters of the Red Sea, and Joseph and his Coat of Many Colors.
These are our childhood Sunday morning Bible stories, the tales we saw leap to the flannel board, soar onto the overhead screen, and take life through our crayons as we colored in each exciting page.
We treasure these memories of our childhood.
Do we treasure our salvation as adults as well? Are we still immersed in our transforming experience with Jesus as our king?
Colossians 2:6-7 says:
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
Be a Noah, doing what God commands, even when it seems silly and people don’t understand.
Act like David, standing up against the evil one, even when others say you might die.
Defeat the bad things in your life with what’s at hand, like Samson, using a donkey’s jawbone, if that’s what it takes.
Part what comes against you. Be a Moses, stepping forth on dry ground.
Relish in God’s love, like Joseph and his Coat of Many Colors that revealed his father’s love for him.
Your childhood lessons are the rock upon which your faith is built. Don’t discount them. Take them to heart. They will stand you true when you feel battered by life.
Allow the treasured examples of faith you learned as a child to motivate you in your walk with Jesus. They will keep your salvation shining and strong.
