Fire-breathing ministers try to frighten us into salvation.
We are bashed on the head with Paul’s words of what’s okay and not okay.
“Accept Jesus today because you could die tonight” … maybe even on the way home from the prayer meeting.
We shiver in dread and look both ways before crossing the street.
God says to hold our horses. Scare tactics aren’t his way. There’s a better reason for choosing to serve him.
Proverbs 3:24 gives us 2 Benefits from Trusting in God.
“If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.”
That’s an improvement, wouldn’t you say? Our benefits aren't freedom from the fires of hell or from worry about being hit by a stray car before we can repeat the sinner’s prayer.
Certainly, those are benefits, also, but the real benefits come when we form a spiritual connection with Christ.
Benefit No. 1:
Fear is banished. Worry is thrown out the door. Nothing that matters can harm us any longer.
Benefit No. 2:
We will get a good night’s rest … tonight … tomorrow … and every night when we trust in God.
God loves us. He wants to shower his benefits on us. When we place our trust in him, the windows of heaven open to us.
Hand-in-hand with Jesus is the only place to be.
