Sarah, Abraham’s wife, is forever remembered as the mother of her people, the ancestress of the twelve tribes of Israel.
She is the mother of Isaac, whose sons would one day fall out with one another over a bowl of stew.
God established Sarah’s faith as he took her hand and set her on a path that would change the world forever.
Here are 5 Keys to Sarah’s Faith in God.
Key No. 1:
God renamed Sarah (from Sarai) to signify she would bear a son in her old age.
Genesis 17:15 says:
“And God said to Abraham, ‘As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.’ ”
Key No. 2:
Sarah was ninety when she conceived Isaac.
Genesis 17:19 tells us:
“God said, ‘... Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.’ ”
Key No. 3:
Sarah entertained the Lord, who was able to read her thoughts.
Genesis 18:12-13 tells the story:
“So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, ‘After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?’ The Lord said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh and say, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?”’ ”
Key No. 4:
God rescued Sarah from becoming the forced bride of the king of Gerar.
Genesis 20:14 relates:
“Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and returned Sarah his wife to him.”
Key No. 5:
God blessed Sarah with joy in her old age.
Genesis 21:6-7 reveals the cause:
“And Sarah said, ‘God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh over me.’ And she said, ‘Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.’ ”
The life of Sarah is a testament to what God can do for one person.
You are equally special to God. He wants to build your faith as he did for Sarah. God is watching out for you, and he will be there when you need him.
God is faithful and will protect us in every situation.
