Not all Christians are guaranteed entrance through God’s pearly gates.
Wha-!?! How can you say that? I might not make heaven? I’ve confessed my faith. I believe in God and the Bible. I even attend church and wear a cross as a witness to strangers.
Of course I’ll make heaven my final home.
Let’s see what Matthew 7:21 has to say.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
So, here’s the question you need to ask yourself: Am I doing the Lord’s will? The verse is very clear. We must do the will of the Father, or our heavenly entry pass is in mortal danger.
1 John 3:22 tells us how to determine if we’re doing the Lord’s will.
“And whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.”
Ahh, our plan becomes clear-cut. We can trust the Ten Commandments. We worship only Jehovah. We reverence his name. We set aside time to celebrate him. We respect our parents. We respect life and the rights of others and more.
Jesus added one more commandment in Luke 6:31.
“And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.”
How do we make sure heaven will be our final home? We treat others as we want to be treated. Say please and thank you. Offer your seat on the bus. Be patient with the elderly. Offer to help those in financial difficulties, even if the fault is their own. Speak to your neighbor over the fence. Visit your grandmother in the hospital.
See? You’re getting it. This is easy. Be the kind person you want others to be to you.
God loves you, and he wants to welcome you home.
