Exercise makes us stronger.
Just ask an Olympic athlete, a long-distance runner, or someone who works at labor-intensive jobs.
The more we do, the more we can do. Our muscles grow in girth and strength because we use them.
Scientists say our brains are the same. The more we exercise them, the stronger they get. Stronger here means greater memory retention, quicker thought processes, and increased judgment capacity.
There’s even evidence that using our brains regularly keeps them from getting flabby (i.e., developing Alzheimer’s).
How does that work with our spiritual muscles? When we exercise our faith, what good results do we experience?
Ephesians 3:17-19 reveals 3 Bonuses When We Exercise Our Faith.
“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Bonus No. 1:
Christ dwells in our hearts.
We can invite Jesus to walk by our side only if we exercise our faith in the invisible made visible. We choose to believe in what we cannot see.
Bonus No. 2:
We begin to understand the depths of Christ’s love for us.
Studying the scriptures is only the beginning of learning about God’s love. Our faith, when exercised, opens our hearts to a greater, never before seen love.
Bonus No. 3:
We are filled with the fullness of God.
The Father becomes more than an abstract concept. He becomes real to us. We learn to depend on him, and we take on the likeness of his Son.
We’re all athletes for Jesus when we exercise our faith in him. We get stronger. Our love grows deeper. And best of all, we dominate the devil when he tries to come against us.
God is our faith-building machine, and we become spiritual giants in him.
