Do you feel like the accused?
Things in your life go awry, and you feel all eyes looking to you?
- “It’s her fault. If only she wasn’t involved.”
- “He does that every time. Why can’t he stay away?”
Hear something enough, and we internalize it, even when we know it’s not true. It becomes truth to us, even if it wouldn’t hold up in a court of law.
- “You’re stupid.”
- “I wish you’d never been born.”
- “Not even Jesus wants you now.”
Stop. Stop, stop, stop! God says that’s not how you should feel.
Let’s look at 4 victories that can lift us up when we feel defeated.
Victory No. 1:
Romans 9:33 says our past can no longer bring us down when we place our faith in Christ.
“As it is written, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.’ ”
Victory No. 2:
2 Timothy 2:15 tells us our confidence comes from the study of God’s Word.
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
Victory No. 3:
Psalm 119:80 plants our feet (and our lives) firmly on the rock of the promises that flow from the cross of Jesus.
“May my heart be blameless in your statutes, that I may not be put to shame!”
Victory No. 4:
1 Peter 4:16 instructs us to lift our hands in praise to the Creator when we feel trouble hounding our footsteps.
“Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.”
People can be cruel. When fingers point your way, look towards the Master. His is the only hand that counts, and it draws you unto him.
Jesus is our source of success when life beats us down.
