God’s Wall of Protection

English Audio Version

Living on the coast is wonderful … except when a hurricane blows in.

During the rest of the year, we enjoy warm sand, pleasant temperatures, and bright sun. We roam the roads with our car’s canvas top open to the sky, and we wonder why anyone would live anywhere else.

Then the dark clouds build on the horizon. We know what’s coming. We have plenty of warning.  We wait for the evacuation notice.

Then we’re gone, not sure if our home will be there when we return.

That’s just like our Christian experience.

We come to Jesus and are ready to explode over the world with his goodness. We are refreshed in him, and we are confident nothing will darken our days ever again.

Then the dark clouds of financial hardship appear. The rain of fractured relationships spatters our windows. The pounding hail of a life gone awry thunders around us.

God says to hold tight to him. He is our rescue. He will build a wall of protection around us. The clouds and rain can come, but we will not be destroyed.

Psalm 37:28 tells us:

“For the Lord loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.”

God gives us two assurances in this verse.

Assurance No. 1:

God will not forsake his saints.

In our darkest hour, God is at our side. He hasn’t abandoned us. He is our constant companion.

Assurance No. 2:

God’s saints are preserved forever.

The human condition is to face repeated challenges. That won’t change. Yet we will not be defeated. We are saved forever from the attack of the evil one.

God’s wall of protection is his assurance of his love to us. We can trust him in the storm. He will keep us secure in every situation.

When we face fear, God kicks the fear out the door.
