Got a fever?
A damp cloth will help you feel better.
Have you run a hard race?
A splash of water will refresh your skin.
Is the sun bearing down on you?
How about that air conditioner? It feels good, doesn’t it?
When things begin to heat up, we look for ways to ease the situation.
What about when things heat up in our finances? In our relationships? On our job?
How about with the neighbor next door that harasses us constantly? We are hot under the collar because they won’t leave us alone.
How can we cool down from that?
Proverbs 3:25-26 gives us a cooling touch from God.
“Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”
When bad things happen around us, God says he has our back in two ways.
First, he will be our confidence.
We are to take heart in the promises of God. We are to stand on his Word, take charge of our trepidation, and forge ahead into the Lord’s work. We can’t let our faith in the Father be shaken by what’s happening around us.
Second, he will keep our feet from being caught.
The mess in the world won’t stain us. Their financial disasters? Bah, God’s got it covered. Are they being caught up in missteps and bad judgment calls? That’s on their record, not ours.
God says we are to exude confidence, for we will move on past the circumstance tripping up others. When worry comes our way, God’s cooling touch will reassure us that we will excel in God, for he is with us all the way.
We have no fear of failure when our faith is in God.
