God’s Promise of a Long Life

English Audio Version

God’s promises come with conditions.

I know we don’t like to hear that. We want his cornucopia to open in the sky and pour out good things on us.

A new car? It floats down on a parachute, payment free.

A charming spouse? Landing at our side as we speak.

Fat bank accounts? It’s like a paint gun, filling our balance sheet with green, green, green.

Why should we have to do anything? Doesn’t God love us?

That’s hardly the point. We must accept the responsibility God puts on us.

We have a part to play if we want God’s promises to manifest in our life.

Here are four promises God makes to us of a long life.

Isaiah 46:4 says our Lord is our keeper even to our twilight years.

“Even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.”

Job 12:12-13 tells us God gives us wisdom as we advance in years.

“Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days. With God are wisdom and might; he has counsel and understanding.”

Proverbs 20:29 assures us age carries its own beauty and is a treasure.

“The glory of young men is their strength, but the splendor of old men is their gray hair.”

Deuteronomy 6:2 promises that if we keep God’s laws, he will add to our days, giving us a long life.

“That you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son’s son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long.”

How do we know what God expects of us? It’s in our instruction manual. It’s in the Bible, in black and white, there for us to study anytime and anyplace.

When we work for God’s promises, he comes through every time.
