It’s all in the mind.
We’ve heard that phrase thrown at us when we can’t get ahead. It’s the notion that we can do better, that we can be successful if we just think it through.
Positive thinking, that sort of thing.
It’s our will that keeps us on the treadmill when our muscles are sore. Our desire that chases our college degree through class after class. Our determination that enables us to raise a family, hold down a job, and volunteer to teach Sunday school all at the same time.
What about those times when we wake up, and our will, our mind, says we can’t? The night is long, our body’s exhausted, and that treadmill is the evilest thing we own?
What then? Where do we find our strength?
Are we supposed to think it through?
Colossians 1:11 says we have a source of strength we can call on.
“[We are] strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy.”
Did you catch that? Let’s break it down into singular nuggets of fantastic truth.
We are strengthened . . .
We become iron! We are filled with strength! There is no lack in us!
. . . with all power . . .
Not some power, not “for a time,” and not “if we work the system.” It’s there to put iron into our will!
. . . according to his glorious might . . .
The measure of our strength isn’t in us. It’s in God. Our strength is measured by the might of our glorious God and King!
. . . for all endurance . . .
We become conquerors. The problems we face, they no longer matter. We can endure it all, for God is our source!
. . . and patience with joy.
Here’s the best part of this verse. Not only does God give us power to endure our earthly trials, he enables us to do it with patience and joy! Whoop! Whoop! We should be excited about that!
Our success really is all in the mind. God feeds our faith through reading his Word, and our thinking begins to mirror the mind of God. When that happens, positive thinking becomes ours, and success in Christ soon follows!
When we think on God, our power reserves will be replenished in him!
