God’s Credentials

English Audio Version

When disaster strikes, we need to find the best qualified people to put things back in their proper place.

Floods? We want water remediation experts, ones who know how to dry out our walls and ensure all the mold is eradicated.

Fender bender? Only those who work with factory parts need apply. If someone does substandard work, the value of our car will plummet.

Crumbling relationship? Find the best counselor out there. Their suggestions can rekindle the spark that brought us together in the first place.

How, though, can we be sure to pick the best person for our needs?

We check their credentials. We want a Certified Restorer, the industry’s highest designation, for repairing our home; an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification before allowing someone to work on our car; and a master’s degree in counseling before we offer our relationship into a stranger’s care.

How do we know we can trust God to take care of us spiritually?

Psalm 46:1 reveals God’s level of expertise.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

The phrase “a very present help” is our key from this verse. It means that God’s help is well proved.

God is our refuge. Bang! Proven! Revealed in multiple examples from the Word of God!

God is our strength. Shazam! Verified! Ask Abraham, Moses, Paul, and Peter. They all tell the same tale — that God was there for them when they felt powerless.

God is our help in our time of trouble. Yowser! You betcha! From Noah to Joseph to David to Rahab. When they were embroiled in the troubles of the world, God stepped in and made a difference in their lives.

When God says he can do it, he can. His credentials are already in place.
