Early settlers moving across the North American continent knew timing was of the essence.
If you left at the wrong time of the year, you couldn’t cover the distance to the West Coast before the winter winds blew in from the northern Arctic regions. The Central Plains of North America became a windswept, dismal region, and there was no one to come to your aid when the north winds came barreling down.
It was like being in a bowling alley. You were the pins, and winter was the bowling ball, coming down the alley your direction. You weren’t likely to be standing when the deal was done.
We often feel like that in our Christian walk. We start out strong, yet somewhere in the middle of our travels with Jesus, it seems we’re caught in the open, our jacket’s unzipped, and the north wind has started to blow. We need protection, and we are clueless how to find it.
Isaiah 41:10 gives us God’s promise in the deepest, most windblown night.
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
God is our bulwark of protection in the devastation. He is our windbreak, our hotly burning fire, and our down-filled parka. With God at our side, there is no part of the storm that can destroy our success in Christ.
Our strength comes from the Father, and he is always at our side.
