Sometimes we need to toss the “good old days” out the window.
That’s shocking to some people, and a few might quit reading right there. Before anyone walks away, let’s look at that sentence in a Biblical context.
Genesis 12:1 reveals the truth that when God says change, we must wash our hands of the past and not look back.
“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you.’ ”
It’s important to note what God didn’t say to Abraham. There’s no record of God telling his servant there was a return ticket waiting in his name, to be sure and retain ownership to all his property, or that this was a trial adventure; that if it didn’t work out, he could always run home with his tail between his legs.
Too often we want a safety net under us before we step out on the instructions of God. Sometimes we need to just go. Take a risk. Break new ground. Be so committed that not succeeding simply isn’t an option.
The “good old days” tie us to the past. God wants us to move into the future . . . his future, the one he’s already ordained and laid out for his children.
