Finding Our Confidence in God

English Audio Version

Stage fright is a very real thing.

Self-assurance and confidence can be hard to find. We must learn to present ourselves in a poised manner, even when we feel otherwise.

The iconic Lucille Ball was a supreme actress. Her show I Love Lucy was the first of its kind in many ways. It was filmed before a live audience, one of the first shows to do so. Her director said Ms. Ball was at her best when performing before real people, and every episode had a studio crowd in attendance.

The people around her soaking up her performance gave Lucille Ball an edge. It brought out an extra quality. The onlookers were her goad to be her very best. She found confidence in her fans allowing her to perform above and better than she might otherwise.

Psalm 37:3 tells us God is our audience, and he cheers us on when we are faithful unto him.

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.”

Psalm 31:19 says he has stored up praise for us, if we fear him and take refuge in him.

“Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!”

1 John 4:1 reminds us that some will boo us and try to trip up our Christian walk, and we should ignore those who don’t have our best interests at heart.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

1 John 3:21-22 encourages us to find confidence in ourselves. If we’ve done all God has asked of us, and we know we have God’s approval, then we can be a bold Christian, doing the work of God in all things.

“Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.”

Lucille Ball went on to own her own studio, Desilu Productions, which later became Paramount Pictures. It was the number-one independent production company until she sold it in 1967.

When we find our confidence in God, we can achieve whatever goals we set for ourselves.
