Bebo is a social networking website launched in 2005.
It was purchased by AOL in 2008 for $850 million.
In 2013, the original founders of Bebo reacquired the site for a mere $1 million.
Where did all the money come from, and where did it go? One party grew very rich, and the other declared bankruptcy.
How secure is our future? Can we trust the world’s financial finagling not to bust our bank accounts?
The Word of God says not to worry about money, possessions, or where our assets are invested. We can only do so much, and we must let our trust in God be our guide and comfort.
Philippians 4:19 speaks of the riches of Christ. These aren’t houses, cars, and bank accounts. They are spiritual riches of peace, comfort, and salvation through our Lord. When we come to depend on Christ rather than our investment strategies, we’ll be generous with others in need, and they will feel the hand of Christ through us ministering to them.
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Hebrews 13:5 encourages us not to make money our focus. Yes, we need it, but to desire it above church, family, and friends is to mistake what’s important for what’s not. Our Christian walk is about caring and compassion, not personal enrichment or one-upping our neighbor. Our trust must be in Christ.
“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ ”
Proverbs 29:25 encourages us to take pride in our Christian walk of faith. We can’t let man’s opinion of our faith in Christ deflect us from our mission. Only when we can turn our worries over to God and let our trust in him become evident in who we are can we know true safety in his arms.
“The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”
The world is no guarantee of safety, financially or spiritually. Only in Christ can we find a place of comfort that will never lose its value.
