Jesus, Perfecter of Our Faith

English Audio Version

We want the Lord to be our shepherd.

We try our best to follow him. We hope to be good, at least most of the time.

It’s harder than it sounds, because everything seems to trip us up along the way.

Psalm 23:1 gives us the simplicity of David’s corollary on success in the Lord. Make Christ our shepherd, and bingo, we’ll not want for anything.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Joshua 1:7 says we can’t take our eyes from the Lord. If we let our attention waver, we’ll go off track every time.

“Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 encourages us to not give up. We must continually strive to give our best to become like Christ.

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 is our rousing cheer. Our example is Jesus. We live for Christ, not for ourselves. When we remember what he gave up for us on the cross, we’ll find motivation to fashion our lives after him.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

It’s not easy to be good. In fact, we can’t do it in ourselves. Only with Christ can we become the example we want to reveal to the world.
