We want to hear God’s voice.
Does he speak in the thunder? Or in the whispering rain? Is he in the murmur of the sea as it rolls onto the shore?
The Bible says he’s the still small voice in the night.
What does that mean? How can we hear God when we’re sleeping?
2 Timothy 3:16 tells us to look for God’s voice in the written Word:
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
1 John 5:19 reminds us others will try to cast doubt on the truth of the Word:
“We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”
2 Peter 3:3-4 cautions us to be aware that our faith must be strong:
“Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, ‘Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.’ ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-2 renews our trust in the truth of Christ and the Word:
“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved…”
The world would have us believe God never speaks to us. Yet, when we open his Word, just like a letter from a loved one that we devour over and over, his voice is ours to hear each and every time.
The Bible is God’s spoken voice preserved for us to relish until his triumphant return.
