Giving God Our Secrets

A locket is a charm on a necklace that opens to reveal an inner chamber. Many times pictures are stored inside, or locks of hair; or if we’re watching a mystery show, a powder to drop in someone’s drink when they are not looking.

The very word locket tells us its purpose. We have locked away something very important that we keep hidden from the world.

What is in our spiritual locket? Oh, not that locket we wear around our neck that those around us can see, but the one we keep hidden away, the one we do our best to make sure no one finds. What secret thing is stored away there, packaged and locked up, secreted away for all time?

Only we are allowed to open that clasp and peer inside.

God’s Word tells us that hiding our locket doesn’t work. We cannot please God if we keep hidden secrets buried away inside. We must release them to God.

James 5:16 tells the believer we must depend on one another for our strength.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

Galatians 5:6 says we can count on faith to manifest itself through our love for one another.

“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.”

Hebrews 11:6 assures us that our trust in him will be rewarded.

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

James 2:24 makes the action of our confession paramount to our salvation.

“You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.”

1 Peter 2:24 is proof he knows our secrets before we reveal them.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

Ephesians 2:8 gives us our reward for opening our innermost locket to the Lord.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”

God is our Supreme Father. He is our Trustworthy Helper and Great Redeemer. He wants us to build our faith in him, and that comes with giving our innermost dreams, desires, and hidden flaws unto him.

Let’s open our hearts. Let’s open our lockets. Let’s open our very selves unto him.

When we give God our secrets, he fills that empty place with his love, thereby building our faith in him.

Excerpt of the Day

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
