That’s a hard concept to get our heads around, that we should sell everything just to give it away.
Yet, that’s exactly what Michael De Beyer, the owner of a restaurant in Montgomery, Texas, decided to do.
In 2013, one of De Beyer’s employees, Brittany Mathis, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Without health insurance, her options were limited. How could she even begin to tackle the bills that brain surgery would incur?
Houston station KHOU tells the story of De Beyer pledging to donate the proceeds of the sale of his business, Kaiserhof Restaurant, so that Mathis could get the care she needed.
As Christians, what are we willing to give up so that others can avoid certain death? A few hours of our weekend? A check in the offering plate? Our entire livelihood?
Romans 6:23 says:
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
When we do the right thing, God will reward us with eternal life that will be ours always.
Look for the opportunity to help others. Then, do it. Whatever sacrifice you make, God will repay you one hundred-fold.
