When someone throws a party and sets out a good spread, we know exactly what we’re saying.
There’s food aplenty. More than enough. No one will go away hungry unless they refuse to eat.
The host has shared without reserve, and the guests are invited to join in the feast.
1 Peter 4:9-10 reflects on the importance of spreading around the goodness the Lord blesses us with.
“Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.”
That leads us to ask what God has gifted us with. This isn’t all about money.
Are you great at sewing? Offer your skills to mend items for the church or the elderly.
Do you have a riding mower? Volunteer to clip the church lawn or stop by a sick church member’s home to tidy their yard.
What about a beach house? If you have one, have you invited your Sunday school class for an afternoon on the sand?
Others of us might be skilled at phone conversations. We can call and chat with those who missed the Sunday service and bring them up to date on the pastor’s message.
Here are some other ways we can Spread the Goodness of the Lord.
1. Offer an hour or two of babysitting.
2. Do a grocery run for a shut-in.
3. Accompany the pastor on a hospital visit.
4. Donate some good items of clothing to a church family.
5. Offer church members a ride on Sunday morning.
You can do this. If you have money, spread it around. If not, there are plenty of other ways to share the love of God with people around you.
Our duty is to God. It’s revealed in our love for those at our side.
