A deck of cards is an interesting setup.
Lots of numbers. Pictures of royalty. Jokers, too.
Then there are four suits. Diamonds. Clubs. Spades. Hearts.
Finally, we have our ace, different from all the rest.
How you pair the cards during a game determines their value. Whether you are playing Bridge, Five Hundred, or Thirteen, you must know the convention for that game.
Even Go Fish has rules and conventions that determine what cards win and those that don’t.
Draw the wrong card, and you can crash your chances of having a winning hand.
What’s our winning hand in our Christian walk? How do we lay down a victory hand when we play against the world? What’s the best card to draw that trumps all the rest?
John 13:34-35 reveals our best card to play.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
When we draw love from the deck, and we turn it over to reveal it in our lives, we have trumped every other card.
It’s our Christ Card, the singular ace that is different from all the rest. With it, we take all the good we can do in every area of our lives, and we bump it up a notch. We become better when we are infused with the love of our Lord.
We become like Jesus, and the world is better. Not just for us, but for those who interact with us.
Jesus is our source, and though him, the love of God empowers us to overcome the world.
