Trading Our Cross for Gold

English Audio Version

Bills were once called silver certificates. We could take the bill to the bank and receive silver in exchange.

One 1934 bill with a face value of $10,000 is stamped on the front with the words Gold Certificate. At the time, you could take it down and trade it in.

The bills were considered equivalent to the precious metals. One had the same value as the other.

Let’s apply that to our Christian walk.

We know following Christ isn’t a trouble-free endeavor. We face stumbling blocks every day.

Yet God gives us a Heaven Certificate. What we go through here on earth is cash in our hands to be traded at heaven’s gate for entry inside.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17 tells us:

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.”

Someone could walk around with a Gold Certificate in their pocket, and if they never took it out and traded it in, they would never gain any benefit from possessing that $10,000 bill.

Let’s get our Christianity out. Let’s put it in action. Let’s get the maximum benefit from our walk with God.

Heaven’s coming. That’s our due. The work of Jesus is waiting on us right now, and we can bank our reward until we meet our Savior face-to-face.

God’s promise is our confidence, and we will be rewarded in him.
