Visit the mountains in winter. Get out of your car and walk the trails. You may have to push snow aside with your foot, but plunge into it. Forge forward with gusto.
That sounds wonderful to winter people, to those who love snow. However, here are two things you mustn’t forget.
1. That snow is there because it’s cold. The longer you are out, the more it seeps in. If you’re not properly prepared, your face might fight frostbite before you get warm again.
2. When snow blankets the world, all sense of direction is lost. Trails, signs, markers to find your way back again all disappear. It’s easy to get lost in the snow.
We can easily exhaust ourselves in a world of white, where much of our energy goes to staying warm. Whoever’s leading the walk is our lifeline back to our car. Yet, there are creatures that thrive in this snowy world.
Imagine the eagle, able to fly above it all. It has s a different view up there. The distance from one place to the next is shift of the eyes, a glance from one to the other. To travel the distance? Move a wing, adjust a feather, and glide, glide, glide.
Isaiah 40:31 says God will give us that eagle outlook:
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Is this verse telling us we will grow feathers? That we will be able to stretch out our arms and take to the air? Of course not. That would be silly.
Spiritual strength. Hope. Compassion. Concern for our fellow man. A willingness to step up when others are lost in the storm and struggling to find the path once more.
We are given the strength to help those struggling with divorce, financial struggles, personal defeat. We get a different view of the world, one than enables us to see opportunities to help each other, to shift a wing and do more than ever before for the LORD.
When we have trouble finding the path, we cry, “Dear Lord, don’t leave me now.”
When we hope in the Lord, we can say, “Dear Lord, don’t let me leave anyone behind.”
We shall walk and not be faint when we place our trust in HIM. Give God a try today.
