What does the church tell us we are to do?
Give lots of cash. Teach a Sunday school class. Take a missions trip each year. Show up each time the pastor decides to schedule a revival.
What about what we want to do? Bah, we’re told. We must toss that out the window. God’s not interested—
Scratch!! goes the record. God says no such thing.
Proverbs 16:3 says:
“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Build a new house? Sure! Approach the Lord, commit it to him, then get started!
Take a ski trip? Check with the Lord first, then off you go!
That new job? Moving across the country? Marriage? Children? Early retirement? Check, check, check, check.
The key is to commit it to the Lord before setting out. To understand that, we need to know the definition of commit:
“to entrust our plans to God's will and surrender our plans to His greater purpose”
Additionally, we must:
“seek to align our actions with what He desires for our lives”
It’s the alignment that makes all the difference. Does my new plan fit in with what I know of God’s plan for my life?
How do we figure that out?
Psalm 119:105 says:
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
That’s right, people. We must crack our Bibles to understand how our plans fit in with God’s established goals for our lives.
We can also trust this truth in Romans 8:28:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose.”
So, if you feel called, give lots of cash, teach a Sunday school class, and commit a week a year to missions. However, God may have other plans for you. See where you’re a good fit, trust in God, and get out there and live your best life in God.
He wants you to be the best person you can be in him!
