The Proof of Our Nature

English Audio Version

A lawyer is a lawyer.

Except when his credentials are fake.

In the 1980s, the youth pastor of a church in Fort Worth, Texas, hosted a young man from Brussels, Belgium, to live and work in the United States. The young man held a legal degree from a European school and soon married the pastor’s daughter.

It came out that his legal degree wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on.

Skip forward thirty years, and the State of Colorado detained a “lawyer” for practicing law without a license.

Make a guess. Yes, the same man. He wanted to be a lawyer so badly that he hung out his shingle and just went there.

Zechariah 13:9 says God will test us until we show our true nature.

“And I will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’ ”

We can call ourselves Christians, but there’s more to it than that. Like that young man from Brussels, just saying it doesn’t make it true. We must live it. The proof must be in the pudding is one way of putting it.

When we practice kindness, show love and compassion, and model our lives after Christ, we can hang out our shingle, and our Christian nature will be obvious to everyone.

When God tests us with the trials of life, call on him. He will answer us, and he will say, “You are my people, and I am your God.”

The proof of our nature is revealed when we live for the Lord.
