What’s the good side of being a Christian?
What’s the magic cornucopia of blessings that God showers upon us when we choose to align our lives with his?
A happy home? Check. We want that one.
A big bank account? Yes! We’re not saying no to that.
A vacation house? A shiny car? Maybe even a pool in the backyard? Yes, yes, and yes.
We also want protection from harm, all the traffic lights to turn green, and a bonus check from our employer at the end of the year.
We want it all!
Ecclesiastes 5:19 reveals what God’s Word says he really gifts to his children.
“Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God.”
The truth is that there is no cornucopia of blessings flooding from the sky when we give our lives to Christ. Instead, we are blessed with three things.
1. We are given the ability to enjoy the good things that pass through our hands.
2. We are given the ability to be content with what our life brings us.
3. We are given the ability to enjoy the hard work that brings God’s blessings to us.
To say it in 21st century terms, God is not a mobile ordering service. He’s not “delivery to our door in under a minute.” Instead, he is a work-sharing app, enabling you to use your knowledge, insights, and opportunities to better yourself by working and earning the blessings God wants to shower upon you.
We roll in God’s gifts when we get out there and earn them. Let’s push our sleeves up and get started today.
