The Bible tells us we serve an unknowable God.
That means that his mind is too great, too vast, too incomprehensible for us to get our heads around.
When we think we have God all figured out, we haven’t even scratched the surface.
What we think we know about God . . . well, we don’t have a clue.
But there is one thing we can do very successfully. We can make a place for ourselves directly in the heart of God.
1 Chronicles 28:9 tells us the words of David to his son, Solomon:
“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.”
Here are 4 revelations David wants Solomon to understand:
1. We must choose to follow God with no reservations. We can hold nothing back.
2. God sees through our plans and actions and sees the intent of our hearts.
3. God wants to be found by us. He makes himself discoverable when we look for him.
4. Our place in God’s heart is determined by us. We must pursue him to be treasured by him.
We may not be able to understand God, but we are loved by him. Like the puppy that runs to us and steals our heart, we steal God’s heart when we run to him.
When God is our focus, all other things fall in line beside him.
