Sometimes it doesn’t feel so easy to be a Christian.
There are so many things that pull us away. Friends, family, things we can’t afford.
It’s like, they have a new car, and we want one, too.
We’re at the party already, so one little drink won’t do any harm.
But she offended us. We’re not allowed to say anything back?
It would be easier to live like a Christian if God cut us a little slack. We are human, after all. When we get angry, it’s not always our fault.
Here’s what God says in Galatians 5:16-17:
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.”
We may be human, but we’ve got to get past that.
“Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
How is that possible? We’re not dead. We’re not ghosts. We are real flesh and blood. How can we walk by the Spirit?
First of all, stay away from people that tempt you away from your Christian values. Even if they are family, just stay away. Your spiritual health is too important.
Next, just say no to the party. Don’t even show up. There. Problem solved.
And the Bible never says not to get angry. What we can’t do is let it get out of control. Take a deep breath. Count to three. Take a walk. Refuse to escalate the situation until you’ve slept on it a night . . . or two.
When we practice what the Bible preaches, we’ll soon find we’re successful at the truths it teaches.
