Christianity is easy.
You got that. Easy. One, two, three, snap! And it’s done.
Here’s how it goes: Believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Accept his authority over your life. Change your behavior to model his example.
That’s how we become a Christian, but how do we become a better Christian?
We find that in 2 Peter 1:5-6.
“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness.”
You see, faith is how we come to Jesus and find salvation through him. We are changed in our moment of acceptance through our faith in the Son of God.
Our 5 Changes to Becoming a Better Christian create a new and improved us as Christ’s example to the world.
Change No. 1: Supplement your faith with virtue.
Virtue, according to Merriam-Webster, is a standard of morality. Have one.
Change No. 2: To virtue, add knowledge.
We get knowledge through the study of the Word of God. Open it today.
Change No. 3: With our knowledge we take on self-control.
We can’t live by our impulses. Make a plan. Live by it. Be better than you were.
Change No. 4: Our self-control is supplemented with steadfastness.
Returning to Webster’s, we must be immovable, fixed in place. The Word is the Word, and it is never changing.
Change No. 5: We are to take on the righteousness of God. We call it godliness.
When we live our lives as Christ showed us, and elevate others above ourselves, we’ve truly taken on the holiness of God.
So, what do you say? Are you willing to give it a try? People will applaud you if you do, even if they don’t understand the reasons behind the new and better you.
Christ is our standard. Now is our day to choose to live like him.
